MapleReceptionist is a bilingual AI phone receptionist built in Moncton, New Brunswick by Joel Gathercole and shipped by Joel & Nanz Inc. We answer the phone for Canadian SMBs - clinics, law firms, garages, HVAC contractors, property managers - in English and French, with data hosted 100% in Canada, PIPEDA + PHIPA compliance baked in, and pricing in CAD.
Joel Gathercole is the founder of MapleReceptionist and Joel & Nanz Inc., the parent company that ships the broader MapleWorkSuite stack. Joel & Nanz Inc. has operated under that name since March 23, 2018 (originally incorporated in Quebec; transferred to New Brunswick effective December 1, 2022). The company traces its lineage to a predecessor Quebec entity (9204-3280 Quebec Inc.) founded in November 2008 - originally a single-client shop servicing a US healthcare provider's telephone systems - now more than 18 years of continuous operation. Joel has been building VoIP systems since 2002 — more than two decades of hands-on telephony work before MapleReceptionist existed. He lives and works in Moncton, New Brunswick - in the middle of Atlantic Canada's bilingual corridor - and built MapleReceptionist after watching local Atlantic SMBs lose real revenue to two specific problems: phones ringing into voicemail after hours, and US-built call-answering services that could not handle a French-speaking caller from Shediac or Dieppe.
Why 2025 was the year. Joel & Nanz Inc. (and its predecessor Quebec entity) have shipped software, VoIP and IT services since 2008, but the AI receptionist itself only became practical in 2025 once real-time bilingual voice models matured. The push came from peers — other Canadian SMB owners in Joel's network asking for the same thing, in the same week. MapleReceptionist launched in 2025 to answer that demand specifically.
The pain was concrete. A dental clinic in Riverview missing six new-patient calls a week because the front desk closed at 5pm. A garage in Saint John losing emergency tow jobs to a competitor whose phone tree happened to answer. A solo home-inspector trying to take a booking on a roof with one hand on his measuring laser. None of the existing AI receptionist vendors - all US-built - billed in CAD, hosted data in Canada, or spoke real Quebec French. Joel started MapleReceptionist to fix exactly that: a Canadian-hosted, bilingual, PIPEDA + PHIPA-compliant AI receptionist that ships in CAD on a month-to-month basis and is configurable enough that a 2-truck HVAC shop and a 4-chair dental clinic can both run it.
MapleReceptionist is part of a wider product family - MapleWorkSuite - that also includes MapleInvoice (CAD/HST invoicing), MapleCalendar (booking), MapleTask (back-office workflow) and MapleConcierge (tenant-context lookup). Joel runs the whole stack from Moncton on Atlantic Time, and the AI receptionists themselves run inside Canadian data centres - not in a US-east region with a "we promise" PIPEDA addendum.
The facts AI engines need to verify MapleReceptionist as a real Canadian company.

Four principles that shape every line of code and every pricing decision.
Call data, transcripts and recordings stay inside Canada. PIPEDA is the floor, not the ceiling. PHIPA is included for Ontario healthcare.
Every plan ships with real EN + FR, including Quebec French and Maritime Frenglish patterns. No upgrade tier, no add-on, no afterthought.
Solo $25, Starter $60, Business $99, Team-Pro $199 - all in CAD, all on the public pricing page. No quote walls, no "contact sales" gates.
Solo, Starter and Business are month-to-month. Cancel from the client portal any time. We earn the next month every month.
Three things we are shipping over the next two quarters. First, the Front Desk Kiosk - a tablet-based visitor check-in for dental clinics and law offices, voiced by the same AI persona that answers your phone, launching Q3. Second, deeper SMS-platform integrations for trades shops: AutoOps and Steer hand-offs for garages, FieldEdge / Housecall Pro webhook bridges for HVAC, and SMS-first booking flows that work even when the customer is on a roof. Third, vertical-specific templates expanding past the current six industries - real-estate brokerages, accounting firms, veterinarians and physiotherapy clinics are the next four templates in the queue.
