Can I keep my existing analogue phone lines and still get a modern phone system?

Yes, and this is one of the most common things we do. An FXO gateway such as the Grandstream HT841 sits between your copper lines and our PBX. Your carrier relationship, your numbers and your bill do not change. What changes is that calls now land in a real call flow with menus, ring groups, voicemail-to-email and after-hours handling.

Will my fax machine still work?

Usually, through an analogue adapter such as an HT802, and it is worth being straight about the caveat: fax over IP is more fragile than fax over copper. If the fax matters - and in a pharmacy or a clinic it often does - the more reliable answers are keeping one copper line for it, or moving to an email-based fax service.

Are Grandstream phones as good as Yealink?

For the money, they are close, and both speak the same standards. We deploy more Yealink by habit and because we have more hours on them. If you already own Grandstream, there is no technical reason to replace it.

Do Grandstream phones work with your PBX?

The short answer

Yes. Grandstream devices speak standard SIP and register to our Asterisk-based hosted PBX. 42 models are listed below with their exact status, plus the gotchas that actually cost people time. If your model is not on the list, it is very likely still fine — send us the number and we will confirm.

Grandstream covers two jobs for us. The GRP desk phones are a value-priced alternative to Yealink with the same standards-based behaviour. More importantly, the HT-series analogue adapters are how we connect equipment that will never speak SIP - fax machines, elevator phones, alarm panels - and how we bring existing copper phone lines into a hosted PBX without touching the carrier.

Ordinary SIP. We will provision it. We have not bench-tested this exact model, and we say so rather than pretending otherwise.

How we set them up

Grandstream units expose everything through their web interface. We configure the SIP account, codecs and the dial plan, then lock the admin password. For the HT-series gateways we also set the line-side behaviour: caller-ID scheme, ring count before pickup, and which port maps to which context.

Gotchas worth knowing

These are the things that cost real hours when nobody warns you about them.

Register Expiration on Grandstream is in MINUTES. The equivalent Yealink field is in seconds. Never carry the value across vendors without converting it.
On an FXO gateway, rings-before-pickup is load-bearing if the carrier voicemail is still active. We answer before the carrier does; raise the ring count and the carrier mailbox starts stealing live calls.
The port labels on a multi-port gateway are static text, not the caller. If the ports get cross-patched, the labels will confidently tell you the wrong thing - the only reliable test is a live call down each line.

Bringing existing Grandstream hardware to us

If you already own these, you almost certainly keep them. A handset that is not locked to another provider moves by changing three fields — SIP server, extension, password — which we do as part of setup. We do not sell handsets as a condition of service, we do not rent them to you, and we do not lock them. If you leave us later, the phones are yours and we release them.

Hosted PBX is $99 CAD a month for the phone system and up to 10 extensions, then $8.40 per extension after that. If you would rather own the server outright, we build on-premise systems from $1,500 and the hardware is yours.
